Legalisation of Betting Shops

The Betting and Gaming Act, which legalised various forms of gambling in the UK, was passed on 1 September 1960. It came into effect on 1 January 1961, and betting shops were allowed to open from May 1961.

The question asked in what year betting shops were made legal. You could argue (and I would, as this was the answer that I gave) that betting shops were made legal in 1960, and only became legal in 1961.

In any case, it is rather mean, to say the least, not to allow any leeway on something that happened almost 60 years ago. I would suggest at least two or three years either way.
